Pimenta Machado, vice-president of the Portuguese Environment Agency, recalls the difficult situation experienced last year. Despite the rain in recent months, there are still regions of the country with little water stored. The most affected region is the Algarve, where dams are at just 13 percent of maximum capacity. In Trás-os-Montes, the water level in the dams may return to a critical situation if there is no rain in the coming months.
