Agricultural sector has 46 million to buy and install solar panels

By the end of 2022, a new call for proposals will be opened, with an allocation of 1.5 million euros, specifically for strengthening the energy sustainability of hydro-agricultural projects.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food announced this Friday that applications are now open for the purchase and installation of photovoltaic solar panels on farms, agro-industrial units (processing) and hydro-agricultural schemes.

According to the press release, this support has been boosted by a total of 46 million euros, "making it possible to respond to the commitment made and increase the rate of support for farmers.

By the end of 2022, a new call for proposals will be opened, with an allocation of 1.5 million euros, specifically for strengthening the energy sustainability of hydro-agricultural projects.

"The willingness of farmers to take on this transition as a national goal has been supported by the government, also by increasing the support rates from 40% to 70%," said the Minister for Agriculture and Food, Maria do Céu Antunes (pictured), in the same press release, adding that the aim of these notices, worth 46 million euros, is to provide the agricultural sector with more capacity for self-production and self-consumption of photovoltaic solar energy, given its needs, contributing to its decarbonization and reducing the use of fossil fuels.

For her, "it is undeniable that, in this global challenge, we need to ensure a rapid transition, which will mitigate the effects of climate change and the energy crisis and ensure the production of safe, quality food at affordable prices".
